I spent the day at the Ciudad Universitaria of Lisbon. ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon is a public university established in 1972. It is a research university with a student population of around 9,000, 52% in undergraduate and 48% in postgraduate programmes. The campus was busy and buzzing with students on their first week of term, with societies and groups chanting, marching, or just hanging around. Some of the students seem to regularly wear the typical Portuguese university uniform (a smart dark suit with a rather fetching black cape).
My thanks to the department of Sociology at ISCTE for facilitating my access to the university documentation. The Library Depository of ISCTE-IUL specialises in social sciences and holds over 80,000 publications in a variety of languages. I was surprised to find, yet again, that no studies on the work of the CDTs (bar a masters dissertation) appear to have been published so far, but gratified to think that my research will hopefully fill in a gap and contribute to knowledge building and policy considerations.
